I was given an amazing opportunity this past weekend the through the generosity of NDC Outdoor Legacy to attend the 2nd Annual Rockwall Ford DD-214 Shooter Classic held at Cow Creek Ranch in Coleman, Texas. It was a pretty big risk to jump on a plane and head down to Texas for a Veterans event where I didn’t know anyone, but damn I’m glad I did it. Everything was amazing. 40 veterans from all over were hosted by an amazing group of patriots who just wanted to show their support for our community. And let me tell you these Texans know how to do it right. Every minute of the day was filled with love, laughter, food, fun, faith and of course firearms. I can not thank Josh Connally, Trey Connally, and Mike Capozzola enough for their giving hearts, time, and efforts that were put into this event. I was able to relax, meet new people and form lifelong friendships with other Veterans in a weekend that left my soul refreshed, my mind relaxed and my heart happy. Finally a big shout out to Rockwall Ford and the other gracious sponsors that donated in order to make the event possible.
In August 2023, I had the profound honor of being invited to the DD214 Shooters Classic, an all-veteran shooting tournament hosted by NDC Outdoor Legacy. To be completely honest, I found myself filled with uncertainty about attending; I wondered whether I was truly ready to be in the company of people I didn’t know. As someone who often keeps to themselves, the thought of stepping out of my comfort zone was daunting.
Yet, I took the leap, and it turned out to be one of the most humbling experiences of my life. At the event, I was deeply moved by the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to support us veterans. Their compassion shone through in every interaction—they worked tirelessly, offered prayers, and shared genuine love with everyone present. Words fall short in expressing my gratitude for the invitation and the chance to witness such a beautiful fellowship among brothers.
Though I felt undeserving at times, every effort was made to ensure that all veterans were cared for and uplifted. From the delicious meals to the heartfelt prayers and carefully organized activities, NCD Outdoors truly exceeded all expectations. I left the ranch with my spirit renewed and a newfound family that I can lean on in times of need.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Josh Connally, Mike Capozzola, and Jeff Hicks. You gentlemen embody the spirit of service and remind us all why we donned the uniform in the first place. I carry a deep appreciation for each of you—love you all!
